What farm work is
currently being done?

Greetings from the farm,

We hope this message finds you healthy and weathering the storm. In the midst of all that’s going on in the world we thought it best to give you an update from the farm. The good news is we are all healthy and working vigorously towards producing a crop. We are starting to fill our Greenhouses with flowers, herbs, and vegetable plants for both our customers and production in our fields. Currently we have a number of carry over plants growing in the Greenhouses, as well as a few late season greens like Lettuce Mix, Arugula and Kale. In the next couple of weeks we will be planting our Onion and Leek Crop for the 2023 season.

Corban is busy preparing hi tunnel greenhouses for this late Winter/early Spring Planting. We currently have 9 houses that we will be using for growing early crops such as Tomatoes, Grape Tomatoes, Pickling Cucumbers, Lettuce, Arugula, Kale, Swiss Chard, Cucumbers, Sweet Peppers, Green Beans and early Flowers.

We are continuing our experiments with personal size cantaloupe and watermelons. We have a relationship with a variety of seed companies and they are providing us with some new non GMO sweet corn and watermelon seeds, meaning you get to sample the best and newest things available. Thankfully we have our seeds on hand so some of the shipping delays the country is seeing should not be a problem for us. Our plans are to make this year the best ever with an outstanding lineup of fresh, delicious produce to fill you boxes with the best mix ever.

Now, what about all the concern about closures, stay at home orders, etc?

Agriculture and farmers markets are considered essential business and we fully anticipate farmers markets to be open for business. We believe the open air markets are safe although we will probably be making modifications like sanitation stations, social distancing, and other public safety measures. You may ask, what if the markets do not open on time? We have a back up plan where we will pre fill boxes and find distribution locations in which our members can come and pick up their box. Let's hope this does not become necessary but if it does, rest assured we WILL get your produce to you! For those that pick up at our farm stand in Spring Prairie, we plan to open up late April and have a greenhouse (well ventilated) full of plants for sale. We would invite you to come visit our stand to buy flowers and vegetable plants for your yard and garden. On the farm we think this will be our best summer ever and look forward to celebrating the season when we get the all clear message from our leaders and head back towards normal. We think the demand for fresh produce will grow with a new emphasis on our health and buying local. As we anticipate this increased demand we are bumping up our produce acreage to cover this demand. Thank you for your interest in our Farm, we hope to be able to provide you with a healthy diet of fresh produce this Summer. If you or someone you know may be interested in a CSA membership, please be encouraged to join our CSA and share in the bounty to come.

2023 Best Summer Ever?
On the farm we deal with some kind of adversity each season and always find a way to overcome. Keep up with us on Facebook and be well! Thank you all so very much!!! We will see you in a few months!!
