What is a CSA?
A CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) Membership is a Program that helps to bridge the gap between consumers and their local agriculture. This program gives an opportunity to consumers who care about what they eat, as well as supporting local agriculture to become a part of a local farm (while saving money on produce). Generally, members purchase a share of the farm prior to the beginning of the growing season and receive a weekly box of the high quality, seasonal produce for the duration of the membership. It is a win win for both the farmers and the members.

What makes our CSA unique?
With Geneva Lakes Produce CSA, our objective is to make more people part of our farm. A traditional CSA will provide you with a prefilled box of seasonal produce each week for the season. Our CSA allows members to fill their own box by choosing from our full selection of fresh, high quality, homegrown produce. Doing it this way allows for members to get the produce they want, while not being required to take something they might not enjoy. Although we do provide a weekly recipe for our more unique items. Another benefit to filling your own box is that it gives members the opportunity to fill their box with produce to be jarred, canned or frozen in high quantity when it is in season.

Share Sizes:
We offer 2 different sizes for our Share options, a Half Share or a Full Share.

A Half Share is the size of a half bushel box and measures 12" wide, 14" long and 9" deep. A Half Share is typical for a small family using an average amount of produce. A Full Share is the size of a full bushel box and measures 14" wide, 16.5" long and 12" deep.

A Full Share is a much greater value, but the vast quantity of produce is more than some families need. A Full Share is normally fitting for a larger family or a small family on a high produce diet.
-With the Full share, a CSA member may opt to split their share with a friend, or pickup half of their share twice in one week. In order to achieve this, we offer an option to add an extra box for an added cost. Doing this would allow for ensuring that the freshness of their produce lasts for the whole week.

Season (Standard and Extended):

This all takes place over a 20 week, standard, season that begins on the week of June 12th and goes until the last week of October. In addition to our 20 week season we offer an option for a 27 week, extended season. You get 7 extra weeks/fill ups to be used whenever you choose. The extra weeks/fill ups can be used for plants and early produce in the spring, starting in early May. It can be used for extra produce in the summer, if you ever would like to double up in the same week (commonly used by members doing Canning, Jarring or Freezing). Or they can be used for produce all of the way through November/December. Some of our pick up locations run late into the Fall/Winter, so members can extend their season by attending those markets. Keep in mind that not all Markets will run later than the Standard Season, you can check our "Pick Up Locations" Form below to see the dates of each pick up location.

How does the pricing work?

Becoming a member of the Geneva Lakes Produce CSA means that the money you pay into your membership will be used, by us, to put crops into the field and maintain them until the point of ripeness, which is when we will bring them to you. For this reason, the CSA payment is most valuable to us early in the season, so the price is lowest at that time. As the season progresses and our costs pass, the cost of the CSA also rises. So becoming a member early pays off. Although, regardless of when the membership is purchased, it is still a considerable savings compared to normal retail prices.

Pick-up location options?

Geneva Lakes Produce Greenhouse & CSA participates in a select number of Illinois and Wisconsin Farmers' Markets. Any of these locations can be used as a pick up location for our CSA Members.

Upon purchasing a CSA share you will need to pick out one location to pick up your own personal CSA box for the first week. After the first week, you will be allowed to bring that box to any of our pick up locations week to week, at your convenience, without needing to inform us on which location/day you plan to attend.
